The opening ceremony of the model dairy farm and training centre established by Hashoo Foundation was carried out on June 23, 2009 at Balakot. Dr Muqarab Ali Khan Director, Livestock Research Station Jabba Mansehra, Department of Livestock was chief guest while Ex- Provisional minister for Agriculture and Livestock NWFP, Qari Muhmood presided over the ceremony. The program was attended by local government representatives, Government line department officials, international, national and local NGOs and a large number of community members.
The objective of establishing a model dairy farm is to demonstrate the scientific techniques in livestock management and dairy farming. Under the Expanded Dairy Development (EDDP) project sponsored by Church World Services CWS P/A and EED, the beneficiaries will be trained in different trades of livestock and dairy production like Livestock Management, animal housing, animal disease management, feed and fodder development, breeds and breed improvement and dairy products development and marketing.
The model farm will be utilized as demonstration spot for the all communities of the area and will serve as a training centre for organizations working in livestock and dairy sector. Only under Expanded Dairy Development Program alone, 175 training sessions will be carried out benefiting about 300 farming families that are mostly women headed.
All these training will be organized under the Farmers Field School (FFS) approach and in coordination with Government line department and other relevant agencies. |

| The details of the ceremony are as follows: |

The ceremony began with recitation of verses from the Holy Quran. |
|
|
Mr. Sajjad Ali, Project Manager EDDP, made the opening speech and gave a brief description about the project and its features. He emphasized on the participation of the community to fulfill the objectives of this project. After the speech he requested the HF staff and chief Guest to inaugurate the program in Ribbon cutting ceremony. |
|
|
|
Mr. Qari Muhmood, Ex-Minister for Agriculture and Livestock NWFP inaugurated the Farm. After inauguration the CWS and HF staffs along with other distinguish guests visited the shed, training hall and chiller room. During their visit guests were briefed about the operations and utilities of the each facility. |
|
|
|
Miss. Gen from CWS visited the site and expressed her satisfaction on the implementation and working of the project. During her speech she thanked HF, government officials and local community for the successful progress of the EDDP Project. |
|
|
|
Addressing the participants, Dr. Imam Yar Baig, CEO, Hashoo Foundation emphasized the significance of the project and brief the audience on the thematic interventions of Hashoo Foundation. |
|
|
|
The ceremony included a speech by the Qari Muhmood, Ex-Minister for Agriculture and Livestock NWFP. He thanked HF and CWS for initiating the project and extend his full cooperation in the implementation and sustainability of the EDDP Project. |
|
|
|
Dr. Muqarab Ali Khan, Director Jabba Livestock Research Station Mansehra also expressed his gratitude towards the efforts of HF and CWS. HF official also visited the Gabba research centre in Mansehra and praised the efforts of the centre. |
|
|
|
Dr. Asim, Provincial, Team Leader Community Dairy Farms assured his full cooperation in the implementation of the project. He also promised to fence the model farm to protect the area for grazing of livestock. He has also promised to guide the HF staff. |
